The Colin and Marie Come Buy Our Crap Sale 2004

My brother and sister-in-law are moving to New York this July, and are sick of moving all their crap from one side of the country to the other again, so decided to get rid of a bunch of it garage-sale-style the same weekend I was visiting for the Lewis and Clark bicentennial celebration. Saturday was to be their public sale, taking place all day long; these photos are from Friday night, the special "friends and family" evening where we got pick of the litter (and 25 percent off) (oh, and got to grab the crap that was actually ours but got accidentally mixed into their crap over the years). This photo is of the koi pond that came with the house when they first bought it; it's always been my favorite part of visiting their place over the years they've owned it.
The back porch and yard of Colin and Marie's place.
Leftover tools for sale - Colin kept the best ones.
Various larger furniture for sale. On the left is an airplane seat that Colin and dad made into a piece of furniture years ago.
In the dining room, looking east into the living room. This house is currently for sale, by the way (as of May 25, 2004); serious parties should feel free to contact me.
One of their co-workers, looking through clothes.
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is the "library" section of the sale. Please keep cocktail sloshes to a minimum. Oh, did I not mention that Colin and Marie were serving cocktails? Why, it wouldn't be a party from Colin and Marie without cocktails! In fact, instead of selling their excess liquor they decided to just hand it out to everyone for free that night, one ice-cube-filled glass at a time. Which was great, except you had to deal with only what they still had left, which got into some weird territory at points. (How did my brother and sister-in-law end up with an entire bottle of port?)
The spacious and light-filled living room.
A co-worker, perusing the books Colin and Marie decided to keep.
Tape-o-rama! Colin's the proud owner of an iPod now, so all non-digital removable storage units must now go! One dollar for 50 jewel cases! Our prices are so low we must be crazy!
Ladies and gentlemen, the "computer" part of our tour. In the foreground, various spare tech crap for sale, picked up randomly over the years - TI graphing calculator, CallerID box, spare Nintendo joystick, strobe light, etc. In the background, Colin's sweet setup - a brand-new Mac and a brand-new Windows machine, physically hooked together through network cables. (My brother does cross-platform networking for a living.) He's interviewing with some cool-ass places in New York, but I don't want to jinx it so I won't mention who they are.
My brother, on the right, talking with a fellow network geek about used tools and the dirty jokes that can be constructed out of such a thing.
My sister-in-law, on the left, in their cool-ass kitchen. (Man, I really will miss that house they owned in St. Louis - it was so sweet.) Notice, if you will, how much clearer cellphone photos come out when taken in a bright light (a much more noticable difference than with higher-end cameras); it's something to keep in mind if you own one of your own and are interested in taking web-friendly photos.
We're in the money...Colin and Marie flashing some cash at the end of "Friends and Family" night.
Colin and Marie's dog, a Boston Terrier named Bell. Constantly vigilant for oncoming danger, that one is.
