In 1997 I went back to Columbia, Missouri, my old collegetown, for the wedding of two artistic friends. It was the first time I had been back since leaving both college and the town in a huff in 1994; needless to say, the weekend was weird, drunken, and full of surprises. I wrote a journal of the events on my then-new laptop over the course of the weekend, along with my thoughts on the nature of slackers, collegetowns, and why so many good people get stuck in a rut in places like Columbia. I collected the results of this journal and put them together in this book.
