In 2001 I embarked on my first-ever spoken-word tour of northern California, performing at eight shows that took me to San Francisco, San Jose, Berkeley, Oakland and Davis. The tour ended up holding a lot more surprises than I was expecting--I ended up becoming friends with sex columnist Carol Queen along the way, visited the Apple Computer world headquarters, sold about three times as many books as I was expecting, had my best show at a lesbian coffeehouse, and even attended a sex club while there. This book captures the whole messy, funny affair.
